What to expect

Often the hardest part of seeing a psychologist is walking through the door that first time.

Many of my clients tell me they felt nervous to come in, but feel better near the end because they see it’s all ok. So to try and help that first step in, I thought I would give some details on what to expect in your first (and ongoing) sessions.

Here is a picture of my office. It’s light and warm, and hopefully feels calming and safe. Most clients sit on the couch and a few sit on the grey chair. It’s up to you.

Then we just talk. If you don’t want to delve in to the big stuff that’s ok. I won’t ask you to. I’ll follow your lead, but I also have millions of questions so you never need to know what to say before you come.

I don’t write things down during our sessions. I used to when I started but I didn’t like how it feels. I do use an AI app to help me with my notes though, and this also means you get a session summary after each session, and you get some customised homework / information texted or emailed to you every time. Here is a sample of what it looks like.
